Deleting a database

Deleting a database removes the database from the cloud and deletes any associated files including any backups.

Prerequisites

You must have the DropDatabase privilege.

Ensure that the database is stopped.

Before deleting a database, ensure that it is backed up or extracted to another location if required.

 Task
  1. In the Cloud Console, navigate to the Overview panel of the tenant database.

  2. Choose one of the following options:

    Option Action
Delete a primary database in a mirroring system

    Click Delete this database.

Deleting the primary database also deletes the mirror database, any scale-out database copies and any backups of the database.

Delete a mirror database in a mirroring system

You cannot delete a mirror database directly. A mirror database is deleted when the primary database is deleted. Otherwise, convert the mirror to a read-only scale-out database copy and then delete the scale-out database copy.

Delete a database that is the read-write copy in a read-only scale-out system

    Click Delete this database.

The read-write database and all its scale-out database copies and any backups are dropped.

    Delete a read-only scale-out database copy
    1. Click Mirror & Scale-out.

    2. Select the relevant scale-out database copy and click Delete.

Delete a database that is not part of a mirroring or read-only scale-out system Click Delete this database.

Results

The database and all associated files, including backups, are deleted from the cloud.
