Extracting a database (dbcloudextract)

Extracting a database creates a copy of the database that has all cloud references removed from it, in a specified directory outside the cloud. The Cloud Extract Tenant Database utility (dbcloudextract) is the recommended method for extracting databases that are larger than 100 MB and/or have dbspaces. If a database is smaller than 100 MB and does not have dbspaces, then use the Cloud Console.

The database must be running in the cloud.

You must have the ExtractDatabase privilege.

You must have a user ID and password of a database user with DBA authority.

Context and remarks

You can also create a copy of a database by using the Backup utility (dbbackup). However, the backed up copy of the database contains cloud references.

  1. At a command prompt, navigate to the Bin32 or Bin64 of the cloud installation directory. For example:

  2. Run the Cloud Extract Tenant Database utility (dbcloudextract).

    dbcloudextract -cc "HOST=cloud-host-name;UID=cloud-user-name;PWD=cloud-password"
    -c "UID=database-user-name;PWD=database-password;DBN=database-name" -drop C:\MyDirectory

By default, the database continues running in the cloud and a copy of it is extracted to the specified directory.
