Moving a database

Move a database from one cloud server to another cloud server and/or host.


You must have the MoveDatabase privilege.

To move the primary database, both the primary and the mirror databases must be running.

To move the mirror database, the primary database must be running.

Context and remarks

To move all the databases from a cloud server, use load balancing.

Connections to the database can be dropped or temporarily disabled.

  1. In the Cloud Console, navigate to the Overview panel of the tenant database.

  2. Choose one of the following options:

    Option Action
    Move a primary database in a mirroring system Click Mirror & Scale-out » Move primary database.
    Move a mirror database in a mirroring system Click Mirror & Scale-out » Move mirror database.
    Move a database that is the read-write copy in a read-only scale-out system You cannot move the read-write database in a read-only scale-out system.
    Move a read-only scale-out database copy
    1. Click Mirror & Scale-out.

    2. Select the database copy you want to move, and then click Move.

    Move a database that is not part of a mirroring or read-only scale-out system

    • Click Move this database.


If the original database was running or if the original database was stopped, then the database or database copy is moved to the specified cloud server.


If you moved a stopped database, the database is not started on the new cloud server. You must restart it manually.
