SAP SQL Anywhere, on-demand edition 1.0 » SAP SQL Anywhere, on-demand edition

Cloud introduction and terminology

The term cloud computing means offering computing as a service over a distributed network, typically the Internet.

The cloud is a pool of shared resources such as hosts, database servers, and databases. The cloud provides data storage and access to end-users without them having to know the physical location of data, and without them having to install and run software on their local computer.

SAP SQL Anywhere, on-demand edition is a data management solution that enables independent software vendors (ISVs) to take business applications to the cloud and offer software as a service (SaaS). ISVs can build, deploy, and manage large cloud applications. SAP SQL Anywhere, on-demand edition offers the administrative ease of multi-tenant computing, while ensuring the security of full data isolation for ISV customers.

The middle tier shows three databases representing tenant databases, with lines connecting each database up to the top tier. The lower tier shows groups of end-users, with lines connecting them up to the three tenant databases in the middle tier.
