Extracting a database (Cloud Console)

Extract a database from the cloud and remove all cloud references from it.

The database must be running in the cloud.

You must have the ExtractDatabase cloud privilege.

You must have a user ID and password of a database user with DBA authority.

The Cloud Console is the recommended method for extracting databases that are smaller than 100 MB and do not have dbspaces. If a database is larger than 100 MB or has dbspaces, then use the Cloud Extract Tenant Database utility (dbcloudextract).

Extracting a database creates a copy of the database that has all cloud references removed from it, in a specified directory outside the cloud. The Backup utility (dbbackup) can also be used to create a copy of the database; however, the copy would contain cloud references.

  1. In the Cloud Console, on the Databases panel, select the database you want to extract.
  2. Select Other Actions, click Extract, and follow the instructions.

By default, the tenant database continues running in the cloud and a copy of it is extracted to the specified directory.
