Connecting to a database in the cloud via TDS

Open Client and jConnect applications connect to a tenant database using Tabular Data Stream (TDS), and can perform connection redirection.

To connect to a database in the cloud, supply at minimum a server address in the cloud, the name of the database, and a user ID and password for the database.

  1. Pass the DatabaseName and NodeType connection parameters to the server using the RemotePWD parameter. The default NodeType for cloud servers is Primary. For example:
    import java.uitl.Properties;
    import com.sybase.jdbcx.SybDriver;
    SybDriver drvr = (SybDriver)Class.forName( "com.sybase.jdbc4.jdbc.SybDriver" ).newInstance();
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.put( "User", "DBA" );
    props.put("Password", "sql" );
    drvr.setRemotePassword( NULL, "nodetype=Primary;dbn=mydb" );
  2. Connect to a tenant database by providing an extended form of the URL similar to the following:
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection (
      "jdbc:sybase:Tds:localhost:2638", props );

The connection is redirected to the specified tenant database or database copy.
