You deploy and administer a SQL Remote system from the consolidated database. To administer SQL Remote systems You must have the SYS_REPLICATION_ADMIN_ROLE system role.
To deploy and administer a SQL Remote system:
Set up the consolidated database.
Review and test your SQL Remote system.
Thorough testing of your SQL Remote system should be done before deployment, especially if you have a large number of remote databases.
Create remote databases and deploying the design.
As the DBA of the consolidated database, you deploy SQL Remote by:
Creating a SQL Anywhere database for each remote user, with their own initial copy of the data, and starting their subscriptions. See Remote database extraction.
Installing on each remote user's computer the SQL Anywhere database server, the remote database, SQL Remote, and the client application. See Embedded database application deployment and SQL Remote deployment.
Run the SQL Remote Message Agent (dbremote) to exchange messages.
To exchange messages, you need to:
Decide whether to run the SQL Remote Message Agent (dbremote) in continuous mode or batch mode on the consolidated and remote databases. See SQL Remote Message Agent (dbremote) modes.
Ensure that the system is properly configured with correct user names, SQL Remote Message Agent (dbremote) connection strings, privileges, and so on. See SQL Remote Message Agent (dbremote).
Use the Guaranteed Message Delivery System to manage the messages being sent back and forth among many databases. See Guaranteed Message Delivery System.
Implement a backup and recovery strategy.
You must create and implement a backup and recovery strategy for the consolidated database. See SQL Remote system backups.
Upgrade the software and database schemas as required.
