Lesson 1: Create a database file

In this lesson, you create a database file to hold your database. The database file contains system tables and other system objects that are common to all databases; later you will add tables. Other options are available when creating a database, but the default choices are typically sufficient.

To create a new database file

  1. Start Sybase Central.

  2. From the Tools menu, choose SQL Anywhere 11 » Create Database.

  3. Read the information on the Welcome page, and then click Next.

  4. Select Create A Database On This Computer, and then click Next.

  5. In the Save The Main Database File To The Following File field, type c:\temp\mysample.db.

If your temporary directory is somewhere other than c:\temp, specify the appropriate path.

  6. Click Finish.

  7. Click Close.
