Setting a locale

The locale consists of language and character set, and is used by the database server and client library to recognize the environment. If the default locale is appropriate for your needs, you do not need to take any action.

There are no prerequisites for this task.

  • If you need to change the locale, you can set either or both of the SALANG and SALANG environment variables:

    SALANG=charset SALANG=language-code

    The charset is a valid character set label, and language-code is a language code from the list of valid languages.

The locale is set.
