By default, system privileges and roles are inherited by grantees of the roles. For backwards compatibility with pre-16.0 databases, however, it was necessary to allow the ability to block the inheritance of those roles which were previously non-inheritable authorities. These roles include:

• SYS_AUTH_DBA_ROLE system role (previously, the DBA authority)
• SYS_AUTH_RESOURCE_ROLE (previously, the RESOURCE authority)
• SYS_AUTH_BACKUP_ROLE (previously, the BACKUP authority)
• SYS_AUTH_VALIDATE_ROLE (previously, the VALIDATE authority)
• SYS_RUN_REPLICATION_ROLE (previously, the REMOTE DBA authority)
